SCHOOLS OPEN SEPTEMBER 4th
A reminder from the Abington Township Police Department and the Abington Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit. The 2018 school year is set to begin. Motorists should be aware of active school zones and school buses with the lights and stop arms activated picking up and dropping off students.
Motorists approaching a school bus in ALL directions are required to stop at least 10 feet from a school bus when it has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. The only exception where a driver does not have to stop. That is when the bus stops on a highway clearly separated by a divider, such as a concrete barrier or grass median.
If cited and convicted for passing a school bus you can face a fine of FIVE POINTS on your driver’s license and a 60 day suspension.
Also the speed limit for an ACTIVE SCHOOL ZONE is 15 MPH. PLEASE REMEMBER 15 MEANS 15. If you fail to obey the 15 MPH speed limit a driver can receive points on their license and a $500.00 fine plus costs.
REMEMBER YOU CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE WITH THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN
