Automated Trash & Recycling Collection Program

The new automated trash collection and recycling program is moving along according to schedule with excellent results. The first phase has been completed with close to 5,000 homes in the Township having received their new trash and recycling carts. The next phase will occur in late July with another 5,000 homes being added into the program.  The rest of the 18,300 homes will be added into the program hopefully by the end of the year. Individual homes will be notified as the phase in continues.

The new program as it is being implemented is simply a new and more efficient way of picking up and disposing of our trash and recyclables. The new system is less costly to operate, is more efficient, provides for cleaner neighborhoods on trash day, is environmentally friendly, increases recycling and reduces our disposal trash tonnages. The standardized carts with wheels come in different sizes and are easy to maneuver.

The program was designed to help better control the ever escalating costs of trash disposal for the resident of the township. The program has been expanded for only a short period of time but the preliminary numbers already show a decrease in trash and an increase in recyclable materials in the township. The long range goal is that the program is fully implemented by 2008.
