JAMES FOX BASKETBALL - INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE

The James Fox Basketball will be offering an instructional league starting November 3, 2014. All practices and instructional games will be held at the Abington Jr High.

SHINING KNIGHTS CHESS CLUB
Learn to play chess! Students of this program have competed in local, state, and national tournaments, placing as high as 10th in the nation. Class time is evenly split between lesson and play. Lesson topics range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies. During play time students are paired with opponents of similar skill levels for practice games.

FENCING CLASSES IN ARDSLEY
Fencing is a cerebral and physical sport, often referred to as “physical chess”. The sport equally develops both physical and mental characteristics. Fencing includes speed, coordination, strength, precision, endurance, and inventiveness. All are useful for the natural development of the children. It requires concentration, focus as well as great discipline. In each class, students will warm-up through different games. They will be taught fencing techniques and will engage in fencing bouts with fellow students. Students may use the coach’s equipment. Three age group classes to available.

FALL FUN TENNIS
A great 6 week outdoor tennis clinic for all level players, including beginners! Instruction for kids ages 6-16 in both basics and drills designed to learn to play tennis or improve their game, while having lots of fun! Organized games and match play, singles, and doubles play! Conveniently located at Alverthorpe Park Tennis Courts and taught by the tennis professionals from L3 Tennis

AIKIDO
Aikido teaches self-defense using techniques of evasion, immobilization, and redirection to avoid an attack and then control the attacker. Students will learn to use the opponent’s force by neutralizing the aggressor’s actions. Self-defense, coordination, physical fitness, and confidence are all reasons to study Aikido. Children’s classes are open to all skill levels.

LITTLE NINJAS
The little ninjas curriculum consists of developing eight major skills that are necessary for participation in any sport or activity. They are focus, team work, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness and coordination. In the little ninjas class learning is fun. Uniforms may be purchased from the instructor.

WINTER RECREATION
Program 2015
The 2015 Winter Recreation Program is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 9 (Floor Hockey) and Saturday January 10 (Basketball). The program will run for 10 weeks. The times for each age group are as follows:

Floor Hockey at Ardsley FRI:
6 yrs. 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
7 yrs. 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
8 yrs. 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
9 yrs. 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm
10 - 13 yrs. 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm

Basketball at Ardsley SAT:
6 yrs. 9:00 am - 10:00 am
7 yrs. 10:00 am - 11:00 am
8 - 9 yrs. 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
10 -13 yrs. 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

These times may change depending on the registrations received. If a change is made the Bureau of Parks & Recreation will send out notifications.

CHILDREN IN MOTION
Children in Motion” is an arts program for the young (Ages 7-12). If your dream is to act, sing, dance and improvise, this program is for you!

The director, Denise Germont-Risser, aka Miss “D”, is a nationally acclaimed children’s recording artist, vocal performer of many genres and musicals, music teacher and drama director of endless amounts of plays. All of the action will take place at the Ardsley Community Center. The final “show” will be performed on the gymnasium stage on the last day of the program. Families, friends and the general public are welcome to attend.

This course is sure to teach you and thrill you right to the very last moment of your performance on the last day!

Registration for residents will begin on Wednesday October 8th. Registration for non-residents will begin on October 15th.

GLEE/ TEENS IN MOTION
Miss “D” Presents: Teens In Motion, a 10 week program for the serious thespian and vocalist. Students will choose 5 tunes in genres of Pop and Broadway and then learn the art of script writing as a team around those chosen songs. Students will perform for family, friends, and the community on the last evening of class on the Ardsley Community Center Stage!

For Ages 12-16

COMPUTER EXPLORERS

  • MOVIE MAKING
    The children will work in groups of 2 or 3 as they are in charge of every aspect of making their own movie.
    They will decide on the story, direct, do the filming, edit and maybe even star in the movie. They will also add special effects.
    The children will be able to take home their movie on CD.

    Location: Ardsley Community Center
    Ages: 8 - 11 years old
    Date: Wednesdays, 1/14/15 - 2/18/15 (6 weeks)
    Time: 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
    Cost: $95 R / $105 NR

 

  • FUN-GINEERING LEVEL 1
    The children will work with 1 - 2 teammates as they have fun and success building an amusement park ride, a race car, a drawbridge, and other interesting models.
    Many of the models will have motors. The children will become Jr. Engineers as they learn about gears, levers, pulleys and more.

    Ages: 6-8 years old
    Date: Wednesdays, 3/4/15-4/8/15 (6 weeks)
