Spring Fun Tennis
A great 6 week outdoor Tennis Clinic for all level players, including beginners! Instruction for kids ages 6-16 in both basics and drills designed to learn to play tennis or improve their game, while having lots of fun! Organized games and match play, singles and doubles play! Taught by Coach Ty and the tennis professionals from “Tots-to-Teens Tennis Academy”

Beginner’s Archery

This program is 7 weeks long and is a great opportunity for children ages 12-15 to learn the fun skill of Archery. Each week you will learn more about archery, gain skills, enjoy friendly competition and develop self confidence.

Kinderland Camp
This program is open to 4 and 5 year old children. Activities such as music, arts & crafts, and special guests will be held at Alverthorpe Park and the Ardsley Community Education Center.

The first session will begin at both sites on Monday, June 24th and run for three weeks until Friday, July 12th. The second session will begin on Monday, July 15th and end on Friday, August 2nd.

Abington Township residents may begin registration for both sites and sessions in person at the Bureau of Parks and Recreation’s main office in Alverthorpe Manor on Tuesday, May 7th at 9:00 AM. Non-residents may begin registration on May 14th.

Summer Playground Program
This program is open to Abington Township children ages 6-12. The program will be offered at two locations (Penbryn and Crestmont Parks). Activities will include sports, arts & crafts, games, special events, and field trips. There is no program at each site on days when a field trip is scheduled. Each site will operate from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Supervision will NOT be available for early drop-offs or late pick-ups. Abington Township Residents may begin registration in person at the Bureau of Parks & Recreation’s main office in Alverthorpe Manor starting on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 5:00 p.m. Non-Residents may begin registration on May 7th. Only one family registration per person.

Art and Nature Camp
Visit Abington Art Center and create art inspired by weekly guided tours of the grounds by our professional artist. Be amazed by the art in our outdoor Sculpture Park - the combination of nature and art themes will give you plenty of ideas to create paintings, drawings and sculpture.

Babysitting Workshop
This certification course provides teens with the confidence and skills to care for youngsters. Prospective employers will be happy to hire babysitters who have acquired this official recognition. Upon completion of the course, you will receive an ARC Certification Card, an informational CD-ROM, as well as child care concepts. You must attend the entire course, pass the evaluations, and show the maturity to properly care for children. Please bring a lunch, snack, pen & notebook.

Miss D’s Children In Motion Drama Camp
“Children in Motion” is an arts program for the young
(ages 7-12). If your dream is to act, sing, dance, and
improvise, this program is for you!

The, director, Denise Germont-Risser, aka Miss “D”, is
a nationally acclaimed children’s recording artist, vocal
performer of many genres and musicals, music teacher,
and drama director of endless amounts of plays.

The final “show” will be performed on the gymnasium

“Glee” Summer Camp
Show Choir Program
“Glee” Summer Camp is a modern sound, movement, and show performance program sure to bring you joy as you breathe the freshness of this new-day consortium.

This program brings together the extraordinary voices of young adults to showcase their talents, interests, and passion for music. Students receive personal instruction with nationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Denise Germont-Risser, a.k.a. Miss “D” and her team of musically and voice trained educators.

This group of talented singers will learn theory, breathing techniques, voice instruction, rhythm, and harmonizing, all while exposing them to the world of musical auditions to benefit future high school and/or community projects.

Aikido At Ardsley
Aikido teaches self-defense using
techniques of evasion, immobilization, and redirection to avoid an attack and then control the attacker. Students will learn to use the opponent’s force by neutralizing the aggressor’s actions. Self-defense, coordination, physical fitness, and confidence are all reasons to study Aikido. Children’s classes are open to all skill levels.

Little Ninjas
The Little Ninjas curriculum consists of developing eight major skills that are necessary for participation in any sport or activity. They are focus, team work, control, balance, memory, discipline, fitness and coordination. In the Little Ninjas class learning is fun. Uniforms may be purchased from the instructor. British Soccer Camp
Challenger Sports’ British Soccer Camp is the most popular soccer camp in the country. H

Frisbee Flying Fun Camp
Frisbee Flying Fun Camp introduces boys and girls to an array of skills and games related to Frisbee. Campers will learn a variety of ways to throw the Frisbee and also improve their catching skills. The sports of ultimate Frisbee, Frisbee golf, flutterguts, and other Frisbee games will provide the opportunity for campers to enjoy themselves as they learn these new games and activities. Instruction is provided by the Philadelphia Ultimate Camp, the area’s premier camp for Frisbee instruction (www.UltimateCamp.com). The student to teacher ratio is 5:1. Frisbee Flying Fun Campers will receive an official 175 gram Frisbee.

James Fox Basketball
The James Fox Summer Basketball Program will be offered to children in grades 3 through 12. Program details will be provided as they are arranged, sometime in Spring 2012. The information will be posted on Abington Parks & Recreation’s website: www.abington.org/parksrec or you can contact the Parks & Recreation office at 215-576-5213. PonyShare

Half-Day Horse Camp
Does your child want more time in the saddle? Then PonyShare’s Half-Day Horse Camp is it! Children will spend between 60-90 minutes per day in the saddle and participate in various activities including games, sports, and hands-on horse related activities on a rotational basis. We will be able to concentrate on establishing basic riding skills on larger ponies.
Petite Equestrian Program
The PEP participants will learn safety on and around the ponies, grooming techniques, basic riding skills, and other primary horsemanship skills. While this is not a Horseback Riding lesson, per se, the program includes an exciting riding component where each child will ride during each lesson and learn how to properly mount, dismount, hold the reins and control the pony at the walk and a few steps of trot. Lessons aim to help develop confidence and motor-coordination skills while providing a supportive, fun, non-threatening environment. This is a participatory program for parents who so desire, and one may be asked occasionally to lend a hand. This program is the perfect preparation for private or semi-private lessons or any eager young aspiring Equestrian!

Pony Grooming & Riding Program
This unique program provides an exciting and inexpensive hands on introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled and non-threatening atmosphere. After reviewing safety rules, material previously covered and learning new subject matter each small group works closely under the tutelage of a qualified and motivated counselor to learn horsemanship subject matters such as: Safety on and around horses, Basic Anatomy, Grooming, Equine Senses & Body Language, Riding Styles, and more! Groups are paired by size with a pony or cob and will get to ride or drive their charge during each session. This program enhances team work and self-esteem while helping develop a genuine appreciation and respect for the animals. Course materials are provided.

GO SKATE Skateboarding Camp
Check out this awesome skate camp. This camp is especially for beginners who want to get comfortable in the skate park. You will learn tricks like ollie, kickflips, 360 flips, and how to ride the ramps. We also cover safety and practice new tricks every day! By the end of the clinic, you will be able to show all of your friends. Bring your skateboard, helmet, protective gear, water, and get ready for a ride. Helmet, elbow pads and knee pads are required.

Shining Knights Chess Club
Learn to play chess! Students of this program have competed in local, state, and national tournaments, placing as high as 10th in the nation. Class time is evenly split between lesson and play. Lesson topics range from learning the rules to advanced tournament strategies. During play time students are paired with opponents of similar skill levels for practice games.

Shining Knights Chess Camp
Spend a week playing and learning about chess from the Silver Knights chess coaches! Our coaches are highly-rated professional chess instructors. We have taught tens of thousands of children, including the 2008 national champions for first and second grade and the 2009 national kindergarten champion. Campers are broken up into groups by skill level, so we accept anyone from total beginners up through experienced and highly-rated tournament players. Each camper receives a T-shirt and a tournament-style chess set. Activities include learning openings, tactics, endgames, studying master games, playing games against fellow students, and analyzing the students’ games. Campers will take periodic breaks for snacks and fresh air, and full-day campers have lunch and recess from 12:00 to 1:00 PM.

Razzle Dazzle Robotics

MAD SCIENCE
Secret Agent Lab Camp
Our Spy Academy will help you sharpen your special operative skills as you learn about the Secret World of Espionage! The key to being a great spy is your ability to use science to “sniff” out your suspects and uncover their secrets. We will utilize spy gear such as metal detectors, spy ears, and motion sensors to hone our skills. Unlock your spy skill as we tackle the toughest security breaches. We will “pick open” locks, sneak past a whispermeter, and create our own security system. Teams will attempt to crack through each other’s security systems and track a treasure. This Mad Science Spy Academy Camp is 00–AWESOME!

Space: The Final Frontier
Throughout the week, brave young astronauts will explore the mysteries of the scientists study the planets and stars and what kinds of tools are used for space exploration. Children will discover how astronauts live and work once they are in Space. They will learn about gravity, propulsion and the basics of rocket science through fun, hands-on activities. Most importantly, they will learn first hand about the aerodynamic properties of flying machines by building their own Estes® model rockets! Once the rockets are completed, children will blast off on a real Mad Science space mission with the grand finale, Live Rocket Launches! This Camp is out of this World!

GeoVentures
Geocaching Adventure
Geo-what? Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt that utilizes a handheld GPS unit, a good set of eyes, and a bit of hiking around. It’s a real-life adventure game where puzzles and challenges await you at each turn of the trail. Experienced staff will guide you as you learn how to use a GPS for geocaching, explore the outdoors as you search for hidden containers and design your own geocaching course. Each day will include hands-on activities, discussion, and a team activity. Bring a water bottle and a healthy snack; wear comforable shoes and dress for activity and the weather.

The Wilderness Games
The Wilderness Games are about to begin and you have been chosen as the tribute to represent your District. Impact Sports Dino Soccer
The Dinomites soccer program uses a unique interactive ball and stories to take your child on the soccer adventure of a lifetime.

Parents are involved to bring the characters to life and children learn core motor skills through a series of fun age appropriate activities. Players will develop fundamental soccer skills, using the interactive ball and stories. The professional coaches are able to teach the basics far quicker than conventional soccer coaching all the time making it fun and engaging.

Each child will receive a soccer ball and certificate of participation.

Tots to Teens Tennis Program
For the third year in a row, Tots To Teens Tennis instructors will be teaching Beginner and Intermediate Tennis for kids! It is a great foundation for kids to learn:
-Hand-eye coordination, strokes, movement drills, and games will be learned while having fun!
-Developmental Training: Basic skills (forehand, backhand, volley, serve and scoring) are reinforced while players are learning to compete. Students will learn to hit the ball with consistency, allowing them to really start enjoying the game.
Learn the fundamentals of the sport, including forehand, backhand, serve & volley, as well as basic offensive & defensive strategy. Instruction will be provided for Beginner & Intermediate players, as well as middle & high school team players.

US Sports Institute

USSI First Play Flag Football Camp
The US Sports Institute Flag Football Camp offers an incredible opportunity for any future American Football star to learn and enhance their skills in all areas of this great American tradition.

Open to children of all ability levels, the Flag Football camp will focus on individual techniques and more importantly fun. The week finishes with the USSI Flag Football Superbowl!

USSI First Play Lacrosse Clinic
Have great fun learning this exhilarating game. The USSI Lacrosse clinic is open to players of all ability and no previous Lacrosse experience is necessary, Players can experience stick handling, passing, scooping, dodging, shooting and many more fundamental techniques and skills. Players will be grouped by age, playing ability and experience level.

USSI First Play Golf Clinic
Using a revolutionary new system, the USSI golf camp is the ideal way to introduce youngsters to the game of Golf. Children will learn all the basic golf techniques such as the swing, grip and ball striking using unique and fun training methods as well as doing team challenges and playing in our US Open Competition.

Children will experience greater success using the larger balls and club heads which allows them to strike the ball more consistently and increase their confidence which will encourage them to continue to enjoy of the game of Golf!

USSI Sports Squirts
The US Sports Institute Sports Squirts Program introduces children ages 3 to 5 to a variety of sports such as Soccer, T-Ball, Basketball, Lacrosse and Hockey, all taking place in a safe structured environment ensuring learning is taking place. Activities are designed to evoke a child’s imagination in which they can Find Nemo, send Shrek into a spin or capture jellyfish with Sponge Bob Square Pants. All activities promote hand-eye coordination, movement and balance, and most importantly fun, fun, fun!

USSI Total Play Sports Camp
Experience over 15 different sports from around the world with the US Sports Institute. All activities will take place in an atmosphere which promotes good sportsmanship, teamwork, and most of all fun! Campers will receive technical instruction in each sport then experience the sport in a realistic game situation as well as participating in the exciting USSI World Cup Competition. This is the only sports camp truly dedicated to children of all sporting abilities.

Potteryworks


Pottery Class Workshop
It’s Spring! Schedule some fun time for your children to play in the mud! Young artists will have fun exploring their imagination, develop creativity and gain confidence all by working with clay. Each week, children will complete one project from beginning to end. Some of the projects we will be doing are animated cartoon figures, boats, large butterflies, and a project towards the end of the session that will allow your child to create a piece based on their
own personal interests. We welcome all skill levels and abilities. All supplies are included and pieces are fired at the Pottery Works Mobile Studio. Glazes and clay are food safe and lead free.

Summer Pottery Class
This summer, come join us for a week working with pottery! Each day, campers will learn new handbuilding and glazing techniques. Campers will learn and build new projects such as wind chimes, masks and bird houses. There will be plenty of extra time to focus on their own interests too. Working with clay is a very rewarding experience. Your kids will have the opportunity to let their imagination soar as they learn to create wonderful works of art. Please feel free to bring small snack, and drink .

USA 123 Tennis Program
This is a program for boys and girls ages 10 to 16 whose main interest is tennis. The program is offered Monday through Friday for one hour each day. The program begins June 24th and ends August 2nd. Instruction will be held at Abington Junior High School.
