KING’S LEGACY TO BE CELEBRATED

WITH 17 SERVICE PROJECTS AT AFS

 

WHO: More than 450 people are expected to participate in Martin Luther King “Day of Service” projects as Abington Friends School will once again become a major hub in eastern Montgomery County for those volunteering to do good works. The public is invited to participate in the service projects. All ages are welcome.

 

WHEN:  Monday, January 18, 2016

9 a.m. — Registration and brief program at Abington Friends Meetinghouse, 520 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown.

10 a.m.-noon — Students, parents and members of the public will volunteer in a variety of service projects on the AFS campus to help the needy.

 

WHERE:  Abington Friends School, 575 Washington Lane, Jenkintown, PA 19046

 

 Here is a partial list of the projects:

 

  • Hat and Scarf-making for Mitzvah Circle

  • Meal-making for Aid for Friends

  • Blanket-making for Mitzvah Circle

  • Jenkintown Creek Buffer Cleanup (with Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed)

  • Soup-making for the Breathing Room Foundation

  • Bread-Baking for Face to Face

  • Craft and Activity Bag Assembly for St. Christopher’s Hospital

  • Birdhouse and Bird-feeder Building

  • Help create a library

  • Cookie-Decorating for Whosoever Gospel Mission

  • Winter Care Kit and Homelessness Workshop for Whosoever Gospel Mission

 

  • Off-Campus Activities at Rydal Park Retirement Community, Girard College, A Step Up Academy and projects that can be completed at home.

 

  • New-to-You Clothing Sale, supporting the Women’s Center of Montgomery County

              The sale will be on Saturday, Jan.16, 9 a.m. to noon, at Abington Friends Lower School.

              All items are priced under $3.

Abington Friends School is a Quaker School serving families of children from age 3 to 12th grade. The school’s campus has continuously occupied the same grounds in Jenkintown, PA, since 1697.
